Throughout the whole experience I have felt a surprising lack of physical pain in my body where the intrusion occurred, but I have felt a long and complex pain in my spirit.

Together with the vastness of research, quality health care, and state-of-the-art equipment provided for the heart patient, Covenant Heart Institute is also keenly aware of the spiritual needs of each patient. 

Heart disease brings to awareness a plethora(multitude) of reactions out of the human spirit.  A profound grief over the loss of the Self, unusual bouts of fear and anger, along with periods of depression are not uncommon with the heart patient.  With these there is the stress of obvious lifestyle changes that must be made, new priorities and end-of-life issues that must be addressed.

Because of Covenant Heart Institute’s awareness that heart disease is not just a physical hurdle but also one that attacks the human spirit, we make Spiritual Care another one of its priorities.  A qualified spiritual guide is available to heart patients and their families offering services of ministry during every phase of the heart event, from diagnoses through rehabilitation.  Our Chaplain also assists Covenant Heart Institute in community outreach and education geared toward preventive life styles in the fight against heart disease.  We continue to search for new ways to nourish human spirits who are struggling through the nuances and mysteries created by heart disease.  We continue to look for new ways to reactivate imaginations toward new opportunities in spite of and perhaps even created by heart dis-ease.
