Purpose/Goal

To facilitate patient safety and promote optimal care by providing participants with comprehensive theoretical and technical information related to patients requiring advanced cardiovascular intervention.         

 

Target Audience

Nurses, Radiologic Technologists, Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists, Cardiovascular Techs       (The program focuses primarily on Cath Lab and related areas.)

 

Objectives:  Upon completion of this program, the targeted audience should be able to:

 

NURSES AND RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS

  1. Describe the impact of various levels of physical activity on the progression of cardiovascular disease, and the need for intervention, including radiographic evidence.  
  2. Discuss selected imaging methods used in identifying coronary artery disease.
  3. Describe and compare diagnostic results, and how they contribute to treatment outcomes. 
  4. Discuss the most significant innovations in cardiovascular intervention and radiographic imaging of the last decade and how they will influence the outcomes of the future. 
  5. Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the various pharmacologic alternatives for adjunctive therapy for PCI, including evidence from fluoroscopic images.
  6. Discuss some of the most recent clinical trials utilizing these agents and how to put the trial results into clinical practice.  

NURSES

  1. Discuss the impact of evidence based nursing practice on outcomes in cardiovascular nursing.
  2. Identify the clinical presentation  and monitoring parameters of ADHF.
  3. Discuss current available treatment regimens for ADHF.
  4. Evaluate therapeutic outcomes of treatment for ADHF.
  5. Describe how to care for the cardiac patient of all ages with a holistic approach.
  6. Discuss the impact of congenital or acquired heart disease on families, and on the community.

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS

  1. Discuss the development of CT. 
  2. Explain the importance of multi slice scanners for cardiac diagnosis.
  3. Explain the importance of fast CT in trauma diagnosis.
  4. Describe the benefits of 64 slice CT over EBT.
  5. Discuss how cardiologists are utilizing CT.
  6. Identify the causes of varicose veins.
  7. Discuss the differences between various treatments of varicose veins.
  8. Describe methods of preventing varicose veins.

7.2  CNE contact hours will be awarded for this program.  Covenant Health System is an approved provider of  continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.   This activity  meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements toward relicensure as established by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.  Criteria for successful completion is defined as accomplishment of the objectives as self-reported upon evaluation.
