EKG
The EKG (Electrocardiography) Department is staffed with approximately nine employees that perform 12 Lead EKG’s around the clock. Two of the technicians operate on the Lakeside Campus. About 3000 to 4000 EKG’s are done each month. Many of the patient floors and units have their own machines and the nursing staff can perform their own EKG’s in urgent situations when the patient is having chest pain.
A recent purchase and installation of TraceMaster View by Philips has upgraded the hospital system. All the floors transmit the EKG’s over a modem to the EKGDepartment for processing and archiving. The next phase of installation will enable the physician to remotely view a patient’s serial EKG’s by modem. Some of the bedside units will be able to bring up a patient’s previous EKG’s.
