The Covenant Heart Institute is part of the Covenant Health System which is the largest health care institution in the western half of Texas with over 1300 licensed beds, 6000 employees and more than 500 admitting physicians.

Scope of Services

Cardiac Services offers twenty-four hour cardiac care incorporating the latest technology and a highly trained cardiac staff. 

EKG:  This service is dedicated to assisting physicians with diagnostic testing of inpatients, outpatients, and other clinical customers. Maintains electronic data for EKG storage and comparison of all local and regional EKG’s.

Electrophysiology:  This service provides diagnostic tests such as Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Tilt Table Tests, Electrophysiology Studies and mapping, and interventions such as implantation of permanent pacemakers and cardiac defibrillators, and Ablations by well trained staff and using equipment that is on the cutting edge of the newest technology.

Echo/PV:  The Echocardiography/Peripheral Vascular department is available to perform a full range of the most current diagnostic sonography utilizing state of the art imagery.  Both pediatric and adult studies are performed by registered and registry-eligible technologists.

Mobile Echo:  Using state of the art equipped mobile vans, this service is dedicated to assisting physicians and patients in outlying communities, enabling them to receive the highest quality of care.

Cath Lab:  The Cardiac Catheterization department offers a complete range of diagnostic and interventional procedures with eight digital imaging systems. The department has been recognized by the Computerworld Smithsonian Awards Program as becoming America's first heart center dedicated to digital (cineless) cardiac imaging.

Short Stay Heart Center:  Heart Center 5 is dedicated to providing quality pre and post procedure care to our Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab outpatients from Lubbock, Southwest Texas, and Eastern New Mexico.

Heart Failure Clinic:  The Covenant Heart Failure Clinic is dedicated to providing advanced, quality care to patients with the complex diagnosis of congestive heart failure. Physician directed care is provided by a multidisciplinary team and includes extensive education, drug titration and intravenous medication administration.

Cardiac Research and Education:  This department works with all Cardiac Services work areas to provide or facilitate orientation and training, inservicing, and continuing education for staff, physicians, patients and community. This is done through live presentations, videoteleconferencing, computer-based learning, videotapes, health fairs, and other learning activities. Ongoing programs include the Cardiac Cath Conference and Pediatric Cath and CV Surgery Conference, the annual West Texas Cardiac Symposium. The Heart Center is a test site for Cardiovascular Credentialing International. Assistance is given with implementation of clinical trials.

Lifestyle Centre:  The LifeStyle Centre of Covenant Medical Center provides well care services in the forms of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and rehabilitation. Integrated service departments within the LifeStyle Centre include cardiac rehabilitation, general exercise programs (HealthQuest), pulmonary rehabilitation, rehabilitative services (Covenant Sports Medicine), Tobacco Cessation program, and dietary services. All sciences encompass patient assessment, coordination of care through physician, goal identification, plan of action, and outcome measurement.

Services provided within the LifeStyle Centre include entry – evaluation / orientation, exercise prescription, dietary consultation, ECG monitored exercise, non-monitored exercise, individualized forms of stress testing, sport specific conditioning program, patient and family education, group education and support groups.

The LifeStyle Centre is a 30,000 plus square foot facility that incorporates Cybex VR2  machine weights, free weights, treadmills, stairmasters, elliptical trainers, recumbent and upright bikes, rowers, in-door and outdoor tracks, and racquetball courts.

The aerobic classes offer various types including step, high intensity classes, yoga, Pilate's, and stretching classes. There are several classes designed for the senior citizen.

Power pacing is an aerobic class with an instructor and music carried out on special bikes here at the LifeStyle Centre. The aerobic classes that are done in the pool are designed for several levels of fitness including arthritis and fibromyalgia, Parkinson, water walking (two different levels) shallow water aerobics and babycise (for mothers to be and new mothers).

The LifeStyle Centre also provides Exercise Physiologists and Registered Nurses to conduct various types of stress test in Nuclear Cardiology at Covenant Medical Center.

Massages are also offered here at the LifeStyle Centre, they are offered to both members and non-members.

Hours of coverage for the LifeStyle Centre are 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
